As part of our congregational focus on Hunger this year, we have a series of special presentations during Worship in October focusing on the work of Heifer International. Heifer International is a charity that works to alleviate hunger in the United States and around the world.
These special presentations will be focused on children and families, although everyone will find them of interest. Here’s the schedule:
- October 10th: Chickens (rumor has it live chickens may be making an appearance!)
- October 17th: Ways to give to communities
- October 24th: Importance of Pollination
- October 31st: History of Heifer International
- November 7th: Filling an Ark with Animals
The purpose of these presentations is to learn how Heifer works. Formed in 1944, Heifer provides livestock to families who otherwise couldn’t afford them, works to empower women, and promotes soil and water conservation, which supports the productivity of the soil. The heart of the program is “Passing on the Gift.” When a family receives a gift from Heifer, they must pass on one or more of the animals’ offspring — along with training and skills — to another family in need. The ripple effect is just amazing!
Hamilton Union’s goal is to fill an Ark with animals! To find out how, and to find out more about how to support the work of Heifer International, come to worship (in person or Zoom) in October.
The Mission and Social Witness Ministry Team is supporting this project. Contact Nancy Messersmith if you have any questions.
