Children and Worship

Young people are an integral part of worship at Hamilton Union.  A Children’s Time — a special message for children — is part of every service. Those who are comfortable can then leave for an activity based on the day’s scripture and come back after the sermon.  During worship there is also an activity table and Children’s Bulletins available near the back of the sanctuary.  Children are also encouraged to be acolytes (light the candles) at the start of each worship service, with adult help and supervision available for the younger ones. Young adults are encouraged to directly participate in worship as readers, greeters, ushers, and music.

 Children and Christian Education

Hamilton Union has a flexible, family-focused Christian Education philosophy. We work with our young families to develop a Christian Education ministry that meets their needs. Children from pre-school through elementary school age learn about the Bible through informal lessons, crafts and videos.  Creating intentional space for younger ones to engage with the scripture reading/story for the morning is important to us.

Youth Group, Confirmation Class and youth service opportunities are offered as needed.

Children and Church Activities

Many of our church activities are intergenerational and some events are designed specifically for children and their parents. Some examples are:

  • an annual Intergenerational Christmas Pageant;
  • an Easter Egg Hunt;
  • periodic “Birthday Sundays,” complete with decorated cakes;
  • Advent Calendars and Lenten devotional guides;
  • collecting the Two Cents a Meal offering each month;

  • Annual vacation bible school in the summer
  • Annual “Backpack to school” event
  • family movie or game nights.
