Welcome to the Monday Mailing #11 – Unraveled
Unraveled.
In the world of crochet, we call it frogging. . .ribbit, ribbit. . .rip-it out. Knitters call it Tinking. . .tink. . .to “knit” backwards. . .taking out what you have already done.
In many ways, that is how I have felt these last few month. . .frogging all the plans I had for the end of Lent and all of Easter, and living life a bit unraveled. How about you? I bet this image is somewhat familiar to you, as well.
This summer, beginning the first Sunday in June, we will be engaging in a sermon series for the summer months, entitled Unraveled.
Unravel (v.): Untangle, unsnarl, unwind; elucidate, decipher, reveal, clarify.
What happens when our world falls apart? What does it look like to search for God in the gray area of our lives? How do we press onward when our tightly-knit plans unravel into loose threads?
Sometimes we need to be unraveled—from shame, fear, patterns, or identities that cause harm. To unravel is to acknowledge and grieve what has fallen apart to allow God’s newness to unfurl.
This worship series explores 12 stories of unraveled shame, identity, fear, grief, dreams, and expectations. These are stories where God meets us in the spiraling, unraveling our plans—and us—into something new. We hope these stories and resources provide opportunities for deep reflection, meaningful connection, and perhaps a bit of clarity. (A Sanctified Art)
In addition to A Sanctified Art providing me with this framework and worship helps, you will each be receiving an Unraveled Study Journal to use during the summer as we work through the biblical texts and theme of unraveling. All of the texts for the summer are there. . .and you can work through the materials as you like.
While we may feel unraveled, the presence of God goes with us always. Let us listen and hear the Spirit, during these trying times.
Peace be with you!
